TOTAL OPENNESS

24Jan

We look at the readings for this 3rd Sunday of ordinary time.  We have three very unique readings that can truly stand alone.  We encounter Jonah and his mission to Nineveh, a story we are all familiar.  We have st Paul warning us that time is running out.  We get Jesus' inaugural address as he begins his public ministry.  We try to tie then all together.

VOCATIONAL LIVING

23Jan

Jesus gathers the twelve and calls them by name.  He gives them three things to do: be with him, preach, drive out demons.  How do we spend time with Jesus?  How do we use our words?  Do we invite evil or fight evil?

DESTROY ME

14Jan

We walk int he footsteps of Jesus as he journeys to Capernaum.  We visit the synagogue as he teaches and cast out an unclean spirit.  We answer the question posed by the unclean spirit to Jesus, "have you come here to destroy us?"  What say you?

ALL GROWN UP

14Jan

We investigate why we leave the infant narrative behind so quickly.  Why are we whisked through the early life of Christ i a flash?  We hardly have 20 days to peer in to the life of this child before we are asked to embrace him as a Man.  From the manger in swaddling clothes to the bank of the Jordan river  so quickly it feels as though we went zero to sixty in 5 seconds sort around the world in 80 days.  What are we to make of this reality?
